Journal History

Eurasian Journal of History is an international peer-reviewed open access scholarly journal published by  Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye. A. Buketov. The journal publishes original research articles and review papers in the field of historical studies. It is aimed at developing an open academic platform for the publication of research findings by scholars from Kazakhstan and abroad. Special attention is given to studies that examine historical processes in Kazakhstan, Eurasia and the wider world, as well as to interdisciplinary research within the field of historical scholarship.

Eurasian Journal of History is the successor to Bulletin of Karaganda University. History. Philosophy Series, which had been published since 1996. The continuity of the journal is reflected in the preservation of its historical research profile, academic traditions, editorial principles, quality standards for published materials and commitment to the development of historical scholarship. Thus, the new title marks a renewed stage in the institutional development of the journal, while its scholarly foundation and connection with the long-standing history of the previous publication are maintained.

From 1996 to 2009, the journal was published in print only, and since 2010, it has been available in both print and electronic formats. This transition expanded access to scholarly papers and increased the visibility of the published research. The former publication had ISSN 2518-7236 for the print version and ISSN 2663-5100 for the electronic version.

In 2026, the publication marked the 30th anniversary of its foundation. Over this period, Bulletin of Karaganda University. History. Philosophy Series has established itself as a scholarly platform  for publishing research by Kazakhstani and international scholars on current issues of national and world history, historiography, source studies, archaeology, ethnology, philosophy and related fields of the social sciences and humanities. The journal contributed to the development of academic dialogue and to the strengthening of research ties between scholars in Kazakhstan and other countries.

Starting from Issue No. 1 (121) of 2026, Bulletin of Karaganda University. History. Philosophy Series was reorganised and divided into two independent scholarly journals. The reorganisation was carried out on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye. A. Buketov dated 30 January 2026, Minutes No. 9. As a result, the historical studies section of the former journal began to be published as a separate scholarly journal under the title Eurasian Journal of History.

The establishment of the historical studies section as an independent journal made it possible to strengthen the disciplinary specialisation of the publication, clarify its scholarly profile and focus editorial and peer-review activities on research in the field of history. During the transition to the new title, the journal maintained continuity with the former publication in terms of its academic profile, thematic scope, editorial policy, manuscript quality requirements and double-blind peer-review procedure.

All articles and materials published under the former title Bulletin of Karaganda University. History. Philosophy Series are preserved in the archive and remain accessible to readers, authors and researchers. The archive of the former publication constitutes an integral part of the bibliographic and scholarly history of Eurasian Journal of History, thereby ensuring the continuity of scholarly communication, the preservation of academic memory and the continuation of the journal’s research tradition.

At present, Eurasian Journal of History functions as an open scholarly journal committed to the principles of open access, independent expert peer review, transparent editorial policy, publication ethics and academic integrity.
